Eastern Sicily Wineries

We plan to spend our trip on the eastern side of Sicily. We have a family winery back home and would love to visit a few wineries on our trip. Can you please tell me what are the best wineries to go and see in eastern Sicily? Thank you for your advice/suggestions. We will be renting a car.

hello Travelnow88,

if You will be located in easter sicily and will have a car You can visit following Wineries:

near Segesta: Fazio Wines (need reservation)

in Marsala area:

- Donnafugata (great blanded wines)

- Florio (only for Marsala Wine)

near Menfi:

- Planeta (gret wines)

Planeta and Donnafugata are the most famouse Wineries for table Wines (great distribution around the world): need reservation

Florio in the oldest Winery still alive for production of Marsala (it is a Museaum and a Winery at same time): very interesting visit

I made a mistake and suggested the "western" sicilian Wineries

in the east side, in my opinion you can visit 2 mainb area:the south-east: You can visit KOS in the area of Vittoria (very very good winery

in Etna area: a loty of winery are located there and all of them with small production but real particular quality

in interested I can try to offer some information for somethinf special (I have to ask to some of my friends who are wine specialist)

let me know

Ciao Travelnow88,

Those wineries are located in Western Sicily on the opposite side of the island….

You can see the wine regions here…

You would have many excellent options – Nero d’Avola is Sicily’s ubiquitous wine, but the Frappato of Ragusa province is outstanding.

Since you have a family winery at home, you might be able to make special arrangements with Chiara Planeta to visit one of the Planeta winery at Cantina di Dorilli in Vittoria (RG) or Cantina di Buonivini in Noto (SR).

There are many wineries around Mount Etna worth visiting.

Thank you both so much for all of the information. In Northern California where I am from you can go to the wine country and visit 10 different wineries in a day. They are all around each other. Is this the same in Sicily? Or realistically how many can we see in a day without rushing?

Ciao Welcome_to_Sicily e grazie mille! We’ve named the same two areas to visit and I agree completely that COS is a very good winery.

The Etna wineries are in the same general area, and the Southeastern wineries are near each other with the exception of Planeta’s winery in Noto, but you still wouldn’t be able to visit 10 wineries in a day – Sicily moves slowly.

You would pre-arrange your visits by appointment. Wine tasting may be partnered with the tasting of typical home-produced products, or even lunch.

If Chiara were to drive over from Sambuca di Sicilia, you should expect to spend time at Planeta.

Consider sending emails to all your intended wineries, set a schedule, and book your reservations.

Best Wishes!
