Withdrawing cash at ATM Sicily

Can anybody tell me about charges for withdrawing cash at ATM's in Sicily.A travel agent told my friend that not only will I be charged by my own bank for withdrawal but that there is also a locl government tax. She was told that you could pay up to 15% in every pound for your own money! Is there any truth in this?any up to date info very much appreciated.

niccurquhart,

I found ATMs in Sicily worked just like ATMs everywhere else in Italy, no charge from the Italian bank.
