Driving from Venice to Bellagio

Hi all, I am getting some mixed messages. Currently we are planning on renting a car from Venice to drive to Bellagio. Some posts discourage driving, while others say it's not that bad. Can someone please advise?

Thanks

The drive from Venice to the southern end of the lake is on US interstate quality roads. However the roads from there to the village of Bellagio have been cut out of the mountain in many places. Bad for people that have never driven on mountain roads previously. Yes in spots the road will barely allow two cars to get past each other.

The road from Lecco to Bellagio is easier than the one from Como. However, the easiest way is to take the good quality road up the eastern edge of the lake to Varenna, then a car ferry to Bellagio.
