Driving from chianti to rapallo tomorrow?

Saw some news that cinque terra was badly flooded. Not sure about the area affected and if we will be able to drive from chianti to rapallo tomorrow. Any advice will be appreciated?

As of now the autostrade in the area and also the Via Aurelia are blocked. Things could change later. You might well have to go the (very) long way round through Bologna Piacenza Genova. If I hear anything during the day I'll come back.

Part of the A12 autostrada - between Sestri Levante and Deiva Marina - is closed due to a landslide caused by the flooding.

Today, Autostrade Italia says to take the A1 as far as Piacenza, then the A21 direction Torino, then the A7 or the A26 to Genoa. From Genoa, you can take the A12 south to Rapallo.

You can keep checking here to see if the A12 is reopened by tomorrow:

Thanks for the info. Looks like A12 is still close now. Will check again tomorrow. Any idea approx how long the alternative route will take?

About five hours plus rest stops.

That's a really long drive. We will arrange with our car rental co to return the car at Pisa and train to Rapallo and taxi to the hotel instead. Thought this will be the better option now. Any other thoughts?

I am not sure there will be a direct route from Pisa to Rapallo until Sunday due to the line being blocked so you would have the same long journey on the train presumably via Genova

Train will take even longer. The train line is under metres of rubble at Vernazza, and is closed. I think you would have to travel via Bologna, Milan, and Genoa; taking some 6 hours.

Train would probably be easier. But expect some confusion. The line only reopened this evening and with a slow speed limit because of flood and landslide damage. Tomorrow, many trains are cancelled or diverted and the rest will be delayed.

Thanks for the update. That is remarkable work on the part of Trenitalia.
