train from genoa to cannes?

is there a direct train from genoa to cannes & how easy it the journey? eg how far is train station at genoa/cannes from town centre and how long journey etc.?

Any suggestions most welcome as i am planning to rely on public transport rather than hiring a car.

In fact, is a car at all necessary in the cote d'azur for a 10day stay?

thanks

..

There are no direct train connections between Genova and Cannes and you will need to change train but only once. Change in Ventimiglia (Italy) or Nice. Trains leave from Genova city centre and arrive right in the middle of Cannes, the journey takes between 4 and 5 hours.

Enjoy! it's an easy ride.

Trains from Genoa to the Cote D'Azure are hourly most of the day and the journey time is 2 1/2 to 3 hours to Nice. You are most likely to have to change there for Cannes. At Cannes the station is only 2 blocks back from the front of the resort but at Nice the station is much further back.

Besides the rail links the area has a good bus network serving all the costal towns and I would say that a hire car is not necessary.

Good luck

Far from being hourly, there are now only four sensible (i.e. under 4.5 hours) connections per day from Genoa to Cannes, plus another one of six hours that arrives early the next morning. These journeys are easy (if the trains run to time), and involve changes at EITHER Nice OR at Ventimiglia as has already been stated.

There are quite frequent local trains in the Cote d'Azur, and a car is not really necessary unless you are intending to visit places away from the coast.
