Sea-weed free beach near Marina di Ravenna

Hi,

We are in Marina di Ravenna for a week. There is an awful lot of seaweed in the water in the near by beach - for the first few meters after entering the sea, one has to wade through thick seaweed . One of my children hates seaweed and it has stopped her swimming a lot. Does anyone know if there is a (relatively) seaweed free beach within a 30-40 minute drive of Marina di Ravenna? Many thanks.

Unfortunately that is not uncommon, especially in August: when that happens I just rent a pedal-boat and swim a bit farther from shore.

You can check on the Blue Flag website for cleaner beaches in the area, but that mainly has to do with pollution, I don't think seaweed counts as pollution: http://www.blueflag.global/

For example you could try Casal Borsetti just a little bit north.

Or perhaps it would be better going south, to Bellaria or Misano Adriatico, but I would take the train rather than driving: …rimini.it/situr/discover-the-area/nature-an…

Don't limit yourself to free beaches: most places in the area require you to rent something: but one lounger would do (€5 to €8 per day depending on the area).

... also before driving anywhere check the seaweed situation in your beach. In my experience the situation can change drastically from one day to the next one, at least in Rimini/Riccione.

Unfortunately this year there is an overgrown of seaweds in the area. It depends by the climatic conditions. I don't know if there is a better place on the coast, maybe more south, like in Rimini (the local newspapers are talking mainly of the invasion in the area of Ravenna and Cervia). Probably is enough a storm to push them far from the coastline and leave the sea cleaned, but is not so easily predictable.

I lived in Marina Romea. If you want to avoid some but not all seaweed you need to go North. I go to Bagno Susy and there is some seaweed near the shore not enough to stop my kids from going in the water. They don't like seaweed either. If you go out it is usually seaweed free. I would go up to Lido di Spina. the seaweed tends to be worse the father south you go. Of course a good storm will wash it all away

Today there is the news that on the coast some towns (like Cesenatico) are doing an extraordany cleaning of the seaweeds. In the evening with nets are collecting on the shore the seaweeds and at doom with bulldozers are cleaned out. This should reduce the complaint.
