Home base neighborhood?

We have traveled to Bologna for business/ pleasure several times and have always stayed in the city center. We love being able to wonder the old cobble stone streets and being walking distance to the train station. The city center make the entire city very easy to access, but we are unfamiliar with the other neighborhoods or near by towns. We need to be a short cab ride from the Fiera, and would like to be able walk to restaurants, shopping, site seeing, etc.. Any neighborhood suggestions? or should we stick with the city center/

thanks for your help.

If you have no particular motivations to stay in another neighbourhood (business at the Fiera or something like), I think that the centre is the best option. It is beautiful, lively, interesting, at walking distance from the station, large enough not to get bored of it, and not extremely touristy though.

if you need to be a short cab ride from the Fiera the best neighborhood is Bolognina from the side of Via Donato Creti, via della Liberazione and Piazza dell'Unità.

Stay in centre only much better to go out at evening without any problems and the taxi ride for fiera will be short in any case.

In Via indipendenza/Ugo bassi there is also bus 28 taking you to fiera every day in 15 minutes.
