Siesta Time

I'm getting mixed messages from everyone. What time is siesta and does it vary in the region you are in in Italy? What is open and closed during that time? Is the big meal (lunch) at 12:00 or 3:00?

1. Re: Siesta Time

lunch time changes with regions (and to a certain extent with the season of the year)

in northern italy is around 12.30-13.00 in central italy 13.00-13.30 in southern italy 13.30-14.30, and this comes from differences in weather culture and hours of daylight

opening time depends on the type of the business, if you are in a big city or small town and if you are in the north or south

in general, family run business and small shops tend to close for a 2-3 hrs especially in towns but very frequently also in big cities (in rome for sure)

all larger businesses (apart from banks) are generally open all day with no interruptions

hope it helps

ps anyway siesta is not an italian word
