Train Tickets for Pompeii and Herculaneum

I will be visiting Pompeii and Herculaneum on 30th November and I am not sure which Circumvesuviana/EAV train ticket I will need to get.

The plan for the day is as follows:

Train from Napoli to Pompeii Scavi/Villa dei Misteri

Train from Pompeii to Ercolano Scavi

Train from Herculaneum back to Napoli.

My understanding is that there are only single trip tickets for these stations.

Therefore, do I need to get 3 tickets?

If so, can I purchase these all in Naples? or do I need to get these from each station?

Finally, which tickets to I need (eg. should they all be NA3 Tickets)

Thanks for your help

Sarah

You do need three tickets.

You could buy them all in Naples in the morning if you like, or you can buy the two return tickets at Pompei. There is no manned ticket office at Ercolano Scavi (but there may be working ticket machines).

From Naples to Pompei: NA3 Aziendale €2,80

From Pompei to Ercolano Scavi: AC2 Aziendale, €2,00

Ercolano Scavi to Naples: NA2 Aziendale, €2,20

Also, note that if you will need to use another form of transport in Naples (in other words, if you'll need to take a bus or the metro to get where you're going after getting off the train) you'll need the NA2 Integrato ticket from Ercolano to Naples, which costs €2,70. This allows you 120 minutes of travel.

The alternative would be the NA2 Aziendale (€2,20) then a separate UnicoNapoli ticket for the metro or bus (€1,10 if only one bus or metro, or €1,60 if you'll need two or more segments). Obviously it is less expensive, and easier, to simply get the Integrato ticket from Ercolano.

Circumvesuviana trains are the best option - very cheap, they run regularly. Tickets can be bought at the stations in Pompeii and Naples, only a machine at Ercolano - but if you get the Ercolano to Naples at Pompeii you'll be set.

The trains are a little old and rattly and COVERED in graffiti, but we had absolutely no problems and we used them all for a week.
