Pickpockets on the Circumvesuviana train today

A gang of 3 worked the Circumvesuviana today. They were on the train when it pulled up at Pompeii Scavi heading back to Naples and as the large crowd boarded the train they pushed to get off it. A well-dressed guy stood just inside the train door, I suspect taking booty from the two junkie thugs as they pushed their way through picking pockets. I saw them coming and shoved my hands in my pockets just as thug #1 went for it. He only took his hand out and backed off when I screamed in his face, at which point they knew they were busted and jumped off the train.

These guys were easy to pick amongst the tourists and easy-going locals. Dead-eyed junkies in cheap track suits and bad caps look the same all over the world!

**Daughter had phone stolen and molested on train**

Being molested can mean a bunch of things including be brushed up against, grabbed by the arm, bumped, pushed or being sexually assaulted. I can see the first 4 happening on the train but cannot seriously believe someone was sexually assaulted on the train with her family standing there.

It's horrible that this happened to her and that she lost her phone. There are warnings out there that everyone should heed when taking the commuter train.

Thanks for letting us know Damian G. Its always good to be reminded that these things really do happen and aren't just rumours and how it happens. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday.

Under your clothing in a money belt is NOT easier to steal!. Easier that what? Going naked?

It does appear difficult to comprehend for those who have not been victimised.

Opinions are really quite irrelevant.

These are professionals who separate and isolate, and have the potential to do horrific deeds no matter what someone reasons would, or would not happen.

" cannot seriously believe someone was sexually assaulted on the train with her family standing there"

Without going explicit, and obviously, I only interpret law within my own country, legally the term includes sexual non-consensual touch. It can and does happen on buses and crowded spaces with your friends standing nearby. They may even witness it. It doesn't have to be in a hidden place.

Vagabonda, yours are words of wisdom. And comments like that are not rare on TripAdvisor, sometimes I am pretty scared. Personally I think some people are so enthusiast about a given location they totally romanticize it, denying any issue/problem related to it. I think this is also due to an attitude much typical of certain Anglosaxon cultures (and many of these comments come from Australian and American users of course): individuals are encouraged since their childhood to have an opinion about everything and defend their opinions at all costs, even denying factual truths or simulating offense in order to arouse pity.

Of course also Italian write these comments, but in this case is clearly because of the homeland-tie the users may have.

Had a week in Pompeii area and a week in Rome. Travelled on buses and trains all over. Don't ever have anything in your pocket that can be picked - easy.
