Guided Tour Or Go It Alone Al Hambra?

As the title suggests, should I just try and book a ticket for Al Hambra palace and walk around it myself or is it worth paying extra for a guided tour?

I prefer to go by myself. The problem with a tour is that you cannot linger in the places which interest you, because the tour has to go on. Near the Wine Gate there is a bookstore where you can buy good descriptive books about the Alhambra.

DIY with the audioguide, but make sure you book early, you can book tickets 3 months in advance.

It depends if you want to walk around at your own pace without commentary or walk around with a group with a guide who is telling you things.

Only you can decide which you would prefer.

Getting a ticket would be easier if you get a guided tour because you don't have to understand anything except turn up at the start.

You can browse all the companies who offer guided tours here

or go and buy your own ticket without guide here

A way of doing your own thing and also having commentary is an audio guide.

I'd just DIY , the audio guide , or a guide book will be much less on the pocket .

It is a lovely place to be, much better to go at your own pace and take time to experience the views through the windows and relax in the gardens and actually enjoy the palace in the ways as it was designed to please. Take enough money for a drink in the shaded garden of the Hotel America it on the terrace of the Parador. You can eat from the cafe menus there, otherwise the food available is pretty bad, vending machine sandwiches.
