History - Does anybody know where the camp was from 1945-195

My mum was in the lager here in 1945-46.

I want to visit either the building or if it’s not longer there, the site.

Is it still there?

Does anybody know where it was?

The displaced persons camp here housed thousands of people here post WWII.

I hope not. That’s scary. Apparently it was a large transit camp for refugees. Before they were moved onto more permanent camps for processing.

I don’t think they would have housed DP’s in the Concentration Camp as it was still under investigation for war crimes with evidence gathering, etc

The best way to find that out could be to ask archive of city Eisenach:

Sorry for post #1, that was wrong direction.

Few more information contributing the search: One often used German word for "displaced persons" is "Heimatvertriebene". The German word for camp is "Lager". I found in a quick research also often the wording "DP-Lager".

In German Wikipedia stands that there were for transit camps (Lager) around Eisenach caring for several groups of persons, also displaced persons. Original text:

"In Eisenach wurden nach Kriegsende vier Durchgangslager (eines für jede Besatzungszone) als Quarantänelager für Kriegsgefangene, Zwangsarbeiter und Heimatvertriebene eingerichtet. Bis September 1946 wurden in Eisenach etwa 450.000 Personen registriert und versorgt."

Unfortunatley they do not mention the name of the lager.

For the US, UK and French occupation zone here is a searchable list but not for Soviet occupation zone (such as Eisenach): …its-arolsen.org/suche-im-dp-camp-verzeichnis

Hope that helps you further in your search.

I would like to know the same thing. Apparently it was a transit camp - not a DP camp - that DPs stayed there until they got sent to another destination.
