Where should we go after Wurzburg?!

My teen daughter and I are lucky enough to be spending 6 days in Wurzburg this June while my husband attends a conference. Once he's done, we have 4 more nights before we fly out of Frankfurt. Where should we go?! Would like something different than Wurzburg . . . looked at Rothenburg . . . intrigues but worried it might be a bit touristy. Also looked at Fulda.

We are interested in art, architecture, good food and wine. Maybe some hikes or bike rides. Would like to keep the train trip back to Frankfurt airport at around 2 hours.

Thanks for your input!

How about Thuringia? Off the beaten track of most overseas tourists and a wealth of things of see in places like Erfurt, Eisenach and Weimar. Also great hiking trails e.g. around the Wartburg near Eisenach.

Have a look at my posts in the thread https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g18727… for many weeks' worth of excellent things to see and do. You can get there inexpensively from Wuerzburg using a Baden-Wuerttemberg day train ticket which is also valid from there. That ticks all of your interests and the Frankfurt Airport is about 70 minutes away by a direct train.

To follow up on bigtyke's suggestion that you explore the Main River... Trains go there as well but no matter how you get there it's a nice place. Try Sommerhausen, Ochsenfurt and Marktbreit:

Lovely Iphofen isn't far either:

Bad Windsheim's Freilandmuseum is outstanding:

Bamberg is a gem:

Yes have a look at Nuremberg as a base. From there you can do easy day trips to Bamberg, Rothenburg, Regensburg or Munich by train.

Or for something different you could visit freilandmuseum.de/startseite/information-en.…

But Nuremberg has also some off the beaten path things to offer https:/…en.html

And for good food and wine you shouldn't miss my favorite restaurant in town: http://www.entenstuben.de/Galerie_1003.html

Don't worry, contrary to their homepage they do speak English and have an English menu as well.
