Garmisch to Stuttgart

We'll be travelling to Stuttgart from Garmisch next week. The train routes look rather indirect...any advice on the best way to get form Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Stuttgart?

As there is no train in the shortest direction to the NW, you will have to head toward Munich, and then possibly go to Augsburg which would bypass the need for Munich and shorten the trip at least distance wise, and Augsburg lies on the main Stuttgart-Munich line.

If there are a number of you traveling together, you might like to investigate the use of Länder group tickets, one for Bavaria and one for Baden-Wuerttemberg if travel is on a weekday. This group ticket for 2-5 people will be 27 euros for each German state, and Ulm, although in Baden-Wuerttemberg, is served by both tickets so you have a common transfer point for both tickets. (You might like to visit the cathedral there, which has the world's highest church spire, which can also be climbed for views.) These tickets can be used only after 9AM on weekdays only on regional trains, no faster ICs or ICEs, and should be also good for almost all local transportation within each German state for a day.

If traveling on Saturday or Sunday, the Schönes Wochende ticket, for I believe 35 euros, is valid throughout all of Germany with similar restrictions of only regional trains, no ICs or ICEs. Of course, being a weekend, there is no restriction upon time of first travel. Local transportation may or may not be covered.
