Nearby Towns

We will be in Berchteesgaden for 5 nights next month. We are hoping for good weather, as we plan to do lots of outside activities, (hiking, biking ect...) but are looking for suggestions should we run into a string of bad weather. Already in our plan is a day trip to Salzburg, and I think there is probably enough locally to fill another day of bad weather should we have one, but we are wondering if someone has suggestions for a third, or heaven forbid a fourth day should the weather not cooperate. We looked at it and Passau and Ceske Krumlov are too far. Looks like Bad Reichenhall might be a good option. Can anyone suggest others?

Hallstatt Austria might fit. Incredibly beautiful, Google some images of it. And check some of the history too. The town is over 7,000 years old....older than Rome.

There are things to do even when the weather isn't the greatest. Like the beinhaus

And the Salzwelten, where salt was discovered!!

And check out the Welterbeblick (probably a little more weather dependent). Google images of that.

Thanks Cardinal! I should have mentioned that Hallstatt is our next stop on our trip. We are spending two nights there right after Berchtesgaden and before we head to Switzerland. Great minds think alike!

The spa town of Bad Reichenhall is nearby - soaking in salty thermal water would be a pleasant pasttime in lousy weather, and there seems to be quite an amount of fine spa architecture from the era around 1900, and a nice old centre.

Thank you BlandineForberg. I think you are right about Bad Reichenhall. We will add it to our list!
