Thinking of coming to chamonix in January '18. We won't be skiing but would like a snowy holiday and wonder if there would be plenty of snow around at that time of year.

I am also planning in January 2018.

Mine is a 3 day trip.

Here is the tentative itinerary.

Day1: Aiguille du midi, Step into the Void, Exploring Chamonix

Day 2: MerDeGlace + Ice Caves, Snow Hike or Alpine Coster

Day3: Walk around (Buffer for the above two if weather is an issue), Leave by 3PM

It's quite open apart from Aiguille and Mer De Glace. Did you find any other alternatives?

"Plenty" of snow is not necessarily the best thing if you don't ski. On the 18th, yes, there is generally some snow in the valley, at 1000 m. That said, the snow depth is impredictable, even in january, at this altitude.

I agree with Bernard G I hope there is loads of snow but for non skiers that would be a problem except that it looks the way it should in deep winter.
