Itinerary and car rental assistance

Hi...there are 2 of us travelling. Our plan after Paris for a few days is to travel to Dieppe, Le Touquet and then to Lille-Flandre to take a train to Brugge, Belgium. We are staying at the Hotel Baldi on Garibaldi (15th arr.) and our original plan was to get a rental car from Gare Montparnesse (it looks close to our hotel on a map), and then drive to these places, dropping the car at Lilles. Would you recommend this? After reading the forums about driving in Paris, it seems it may be better to take a train? bus? metro? to Port Maillot and rent a car there. OR is it better to take a train directly to Dieppe, and then rent a car there when we're ready to leave. I would appreciate any opinions on our method of travel. Thanks.

I would take the train myself and rent the car at your first town.

Check viamichelin.com. They'll estimate time and cost of driving (including tolls). We found that three people could go from Paris to Rennes by train in 1/2 the time for less cash than if we had driven from Paris.

You'll be fine renting at the Gare Montparnasse (note correct spelling).

you do not say where you are going after Bruges so one suggestion is to keep the car to go to Bruges and return it to Lille when done with the area. with a car you could then add Ostend and/or Ghent to your list.

one place to maybe add to your list is Vimy Ridge which can be close to Lille depending on route. worth it for a Canadian to visit. they have Canadian student guides where they take you in one section of the tunnels. https://goo.gl/maps/jBLCi

You can also do Ostend & Gent from Brugge easily by train.

Thanks everyone.

Cbaarch, we are going to Brussels after Brugge, and from there will take the Eurostar to London for a wedding. We may also go to Ghent, and we are definitely going to Vimy, which is why we're turning the car in at Lille and taking the train to Brugge. I'll look into Ostend as I don't know anything about it. Thanks for all your info, and you too tradeform.

StCirq, you don't think with renting at Montparnasse (thanks) we'll have a hard time getting out of the city?
