Christmas in Paris - too long?

Bonjour!

Our family of 5 will be on holiday in Paris for 11 days over Christmas and new year.

We've rented a 2 bedroom flat for the stay, but we're concerned it may be too long in one place - especially because it is likely to be very cold, so our time outside would be more limited.

If you had 11 nights, would you spend all of the in Paris, or would you break up the trip and pick maybe one or two more cities to spend time in?

Thanks!

You can never have too long in Paris.

In my opinion.

We are booked for Paris arriving on 12/23 and staying until 1/3/2004, so no, I don't think it will be too long. There are some things we won't be able to do but we will sunstitute other winter / Christmas / New Years activities.

You can also do day trips. You could go to London for a (admittedly long) day. Or stay closer and visit any number of smaller towns in the vicinity of Paris.

If you are thinking about going to London, schedule your trip for New Year's Eve - London puts on a great fireworks show. Paris does not.

And you can go to Strasbourg to see the Xmas lights and the markets. Stay overnite to really appreciate the lights.

I like the Strasbourg idea. It's terribly festive at Christmastime.

Lucky you!

You have some good ideas above but you also just do things you might not usually do; go to the cinema or a show or the circus......

Lille is great at Christmas as well -- and only 55 minutes from Paris by TGV. Actually, I passed through Reims last December, and I enjoyed the decorations and Christmas market there as well.

Even Brussels is only an hour and a half away.

German Christmas fairs can't be beat. French Christmas fairs are more retail than festive. We go to a different European city every Christmas and the Germans totally get how to conduct seasonal festivity. The food alone is reason enough to take the ICE to Westphalia and indulge in a German Christmas.

Sorry France. No disrespect intended.
