It is the RER C Rive Gauche you want to Versailles, not the metro.

Save some time to wander on the Rue St Louis, there are little shops, bakeries and ice cream not to be missed. I just got back from a stay there and had an amazing time.

I wouldn't turn around and head out to Versailles the day after I arrived in Paris but you have already accepted that it will be an "ordeal"!

The itinerary looks good - you have grouped things well and aren't too busy.

You'll have fun.

To second a reply, if you are going to visit Notre Dame on the Ile de la Cite, walk across the bridge behind it to the Ile St Louis, then maybe up into the Marais. Just as you get onto the Ile St Louis there is the Brasserie D'Ile St Louis which is good for a sit-down and a drink, something cool if it's hot and vin chaud if it isn't. It's also a good place to come back to for dinner. In the MArais people like to stop at L'As du Fallafel34 rue des Rosiers for a snack.

And if you walk to Notre Dome on the Pont Neuf go down and walk around the Square Vert Gallant just for the views of the river.

Not sure I'd be going to Versailles either - especially not the day after I arrived in Paris and especially not on my birthday.

Otherwise, it looks good.

Since you are staying on Ile St. Louis, I am sure you will be spending alot of time seeing the island coming and going. I will be staying there at Hotel Lutece on the 28th of this month.

As for Versailles, I would save it for Satuday. We were there in 2008, and the fountains are only on during the weekend. When the fountains are turned on, with the classical music in the background, it was truly magical. They were a highpoint for me. We also found that with the museum pass. we had very few problems with crowds.

Have a great trip!

Usually no fountain show in winter.

Boo! :)

I was there in April in 2008. You might check the website, just to make sure.
