Four of us are staying in Colmar 30th November for 3 nights. Should we pre book restaurants?
Certainly for lunch time when the coachloads arrive for the Christmas markets .... but I don't think it would be a bad thing to do for the evenings to avoid disappointment and uncertain waiting times. (Do be on time please or cancel if you can't make it for any reason!)
If you eat early you'll be fine. It is worth learning a few French words for food as not all menus are in English.
It all depends on what you mean by 'early' .... even from 11.30 at lunchtime especially during the Christmas market season.... but many 'real' restaurant kitchens close at 1.30 ... those café/restaurants will be serving later (some with a limited day long menu in central Colmar) and from 6 - 9.30 in the evenings. It is becoming more and more frequent each year that restaurants are being block-booked by tour companies for their coach parties.
Nearly all the Colmar tourist restaurants in the town centre will offer multilingual menus (with English coming after German!) but waiting staff will be able to explain what a dish contains .. or find someone who can if they can't.Edited: 19 November 2018, 01:43
