Manchester for a day

Hello,

I'm stopping over in manchester for a day in Sept and I would like to know what places I should visit since I have limited time. I'm arriving at 1pm and leave at 2pm the next day so I should have an evening and a morning to spend. Can you also provide me some info as to how can I get to the city (Manchester Piccadilly Station) from Manchester Airport? Thanks in advance! Cristina

There is a tram runs from the airport to the city centre regularly.

The science museum is good to visit but it depends what sort of thing you like. There is a hop on hop off bus tour you could do so you get to see the city sights. There are endless amounts of bars & restaurants so depends what kind of food you like to eat. Have a look on groupon or itison Manchester theres loads of food deals on there.

I think #1 meant to say train- probably an autocorrection.

The train is a lot quicker than the tram to Piccadilly. What sort of thing interests you? Is your flight at 2pm the next day or is that what time you'll need to leave the city for the airport? If it's a flight departure time then you'll need to be leaving the city centre around 11am which doesn't give you much time at all. Likewise if your flight lands at 1pm and you've got to clear immigration, collect luggage etc then realistically it's probably going to be around 3pm before you can go sight seeing.

If you see just one thing I would suggest John Rylands Library on Deansgate.

It's VERY beautiful, one of the most exquisite libraries in the world.

Definitely get the train in to Piccadilly and not the tram.

The central library is pretty nice too. Is there still an exhibition of Manchester history inside the main doors?

Get the train to and from airport. It’s quicker than the tram.

The train to Manchester Piccadilly! www.nationalrail.co.uk it's a pretty frequent service, buy your ticket at the airport station.
