One month?

I am planning on coming to Ireland for the month of June and would like to stay in one town, on the water, rent a room (something simple - above a pub even) and relax. Ideally I can find something to do, I.e. volunteer or something similar part time. I am taking a sabbatical from work and just want to experience the beauty of Ireland that my ancestors did. Any suggestions on towns, room of rent or volunteer opportunities? Thamks - I really don't know where to begin and would love guidance.

Are you specifically looking at Sligo for this experience or any town in Ireland?

Check out http://www.daft.ie/ for medium/long-term rentals and house shares throughout the country and http://www.boards.ie/ for more community 'chat' style postings where you might find that somebody is looking for a dog-sitter/gardener/decorator or similar for a month in a particular town...

If you're familiar with the whole 'WWOOFers' concept then you might score some luck with this website http://www.wwoof.ie/ although wwoofing tends to occur in more semi-rural and rural areas...

Do you mean this one in Aughris?

If so, what do you want to know? Anything specific? Generally speaking I can't say anything about the accommodation as we've never used it but the bar is a (daytime) place that we've been to MANY times - friendly, olde-worlde, nice food, all in a beautiful and very isolated location - and the two beaches (Aughris Head and Dunmoran Strand) are probably our favourites in the area especially as they are the nearest to our property. Both are good for bird watching, (occasional) dolphin watching, beach-combing and general walking and Dunmoran Strand is excellent for swimming, body-boarding and (sometimes) surfing. On a clear day you can see the cliffs of Slieve League / Sliabh Liag in Co. Donegal directly opposite you...
