CIE Tours - recent reviews

My husband and I are looking to book a tour during the Easter break in April (airfare already booked so finding a tour for that time is a must). We had hoped to travel with Globus as we have friends who have taken their tours and were delighted with the service, no luck in finding an available tour for that week. Our travel agent offered an Insight tour (not quite to our liking) or a Trafalgar tour(not a definite departure however). I came across myguideireland / CIE tours on my own and am looking for feedback from anyone from Canada (or anywhere for that matter) on this company and their tours (we are looking at both the Taste of Ireland and The Irish Adventure tours.

In particular, wondering about the number/ages of fellow tour members on past tours, quality of meals/accomodations, ease in dealing with any unexpected delays, etc, and just general feedback

Thanks,

If you put "CIE Tours" in the search of this forum I think you will get the information you are looking for.

I think you are not getting recent results because the search defaults to 'Relevance' in the box opposite 'Sort by'. You can change the results from 'Relevance' to 'Date' - on the right hand side of the page - and, by so doing, you get the most recent posts with 'CIE Tours'. Starting with your own! Below is what came up, when I followed that procedure:

I haven't been on a CIE tour, but I recently got some quotes for CIE Ireland tours. I asked the tour operator the average size and age - she said the tour sizes are 26-48 people, and the ages are usually 45 and up. I hope that helps!

Just returned on 3/15/11 from the Irish Adventure tour. We had 22 people, ranging in age from 2 teens (with parents) to retired couples & single women from their 20's to 50's; mostly women--4 men. It was a great experience. The hotels were all top quality and the people are VERY friendly, especially in the country outside of Dublin. Full breakfasts & 3 course dinners are included, as are guided tours at many stops. The Irish Adventure tour covers a LOT of ground in 9 days and if/when I go again, I might choose a tour with a slower pace, but I didn't know which parts of the country I would like and wanted to see the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. We stayed an extra day to tour Newgrange, which is a day trip from Dublin. Very happy with the service we received from CIE tours...they carry luggage to and from your rooms and organize everything for you, which was one reason we chose a tour. When we arrived at each hotel, we had express check-in--all our room keys were ready for us at the desk and each hotel manager came out to the bus to personally greet us. The tour guide/driver was very knowledgeable, and the local tour guides in Cobh, Waterford and Derry were very informative and entertaining as well as being local historians/speakers, etc. I can't say enough that Ireland is a fantastic country to visit--so safe and friendly and the food is very, very good...local and fresh. You get door to door service in modern, air-conditioned buses, with plenty of stops for photos or rest stops. We were met at the airport in Dublin upon arrival and for departure, we were given a voucher for a taxi to take us back to the airport. No problems at all with the vouchers. Note that we were touring in the shoulder season (early March), which may account for a less-crowded bus tour.

P.S. CIE Tours is one of the larger and well established companies in Ireland, although I had not heard of them before booking. The staff in the U.S. was also very helpful with questions and bookings, calling me several times to suggest better departure times in Dublin and possible air routings. Note: Even in the U.S. all the staff are Irish, which is a nice touch in my opinion!

Thanks so much for this review, my husband and I leave Dublin for the Irish Adventure tour on April 25, we are very much looking forward to it!

Did you stay at the the Maldron - Cardiff Lane in Dublin? We are booked there for a pre-tour night as well and wondering how far from Temple Bar area/city centre as we would like to do some pub-going on our own before the tour starts

Just returned from CIE Taste of Ireland tour. The guide/driver, Noel was great. He kept us informed and entertained. The hotels were good and the stops were both fun and well planned. Highly recommended.

We just returned from an Irish Fling Tour via CIE tours and had a fabulous time! This was our first escorted tour, but it won't be our last. The organization of the tour was perfect. The accommodations were excellent and the tour guide and driver (Liam and Nial) were a great team! The guide was a very knowledgeable historian and gave a great narrative as we traveled across the Island. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a GREAT storyteller! The tour was packed with things to see and do. We were very busy, but it was such a relief not to have to worry about the details, the luggage, where to eat etc. From the minute we landed in Shannon to the time we left Dublin, we felt very well cared for and accommodated. I would definitely recommend CIE tours. We will definitely book with them again!

Hello. So glad to see you enjoyed the trip. I am thinking of goin with my sister and our retired parents, who are older. How busy and fast paced is this trip? They are in their 70's.

Thanks!
