hotel near Glasgow Hydro or get train/bus in

Hi we are going to a show at Glasgow Hydro in April 2014 and looking for a hotel nearby. I know they all put their prices up when there is a show on! So.... what would tripadvisor regulars recommend - a hotel nearby with parking or a hotel on the outskirts with convenient direct bus/train links?. All help appreciated.

There's a couple of hotels literally on the doorstep of the Hydro, the Crowne Plaza and the Hilton Garden hotel.

If you're only going for one overnight, they would be ideal. Parking definitely available at Crowne Plaza, not sure about the Hilton.

There's plenty of places to eat and drink just to the north of the Hydro/SECC, go over the walkway that takes you to Finnieston station and it brings you out almost at the far end of Argyle Street, loads of bars/restaraunts. Pretty much the beginning of the "West End".

There's a train station at the SECC so the likes of the Raddisson or Jury's next to Centraal station would be good. A taxi from town is only a few quid too so just find a hotel you like the look of and worry about getting back. it's not even that far to walk back.

I wouldn't go to far out as these concerts can finish sometimes late and any savings made on the hotel will be used up on taxi fares back.

A taxi from the city centre to the Hydro is around £6.

Any city centre hotel will suffice but check out www.premierinn.com as they have a new one opening just over the bridge from the Hydro around the time of your visit.

P.S. Ron, is that the Dutch spelling for Central Stn?

thank you for this advice. Have had a look at Premier Inn. Can't find out any info on a new Glasgow one tho. Which other one would be closest please?

Basically if you google BBC Glasgow it will be pretty near there so about 10 minutes walk from the Hydro. Does not look like they are taking bookings yet. There is one on Argyll St.or Charing Cross. They would be the closest. There is a Travelodge near Springfield Quay and an Ibis Budget (formally the Etap).

You are over thinking this though.
