It depends on the dates of your trip. Also it’s best to plan it as overnight stops rather than days, so that the travel time between places is clearly allowed for.

Do these days include your arrival and departure?

Two days in each location is only one night.

I would visit Loch Lomond and Glencoe on the way to Ft William and spend one night there, unless you have plans for things to do. I would add another day to Skye and another to Edinburgh.

I would do one or the other for Glencoe/Fort William but perhaps you are planning some walking or hiking in the area?

No it’s more a leisurely drive, & staying in nice hotels along the way. But take your point.

So which would be the better base to explore the surrounding areas by car?? Thanks

Glencoe to Fort William is a 30 minute drive (from the Ballachulish Bridge), so no need to have two separate places on two consecutive nights. Fort William has plenty choice of accommodation and food options, however the town centre is a dreary 1960's pedestrianised space. More scenic options available at west end of Glencoe around Ballachulish, Onich or Kentallen.
