forgot to mention that we would like to stay on route as we will have elders with us.. The castle seems nice!
It’s only a three hour drive You could stop around Callander if you want shops, cafes etc. Killin is pretty, or a bit further on is Crianlarich. Not much there but good scenery
I would probably stick to the M8, over the Erskine Bridge, up the A82 then A83 through Arrochar and stop at the top of the Rest and be Thankful for pics. Inveraray is worth a stopand then there's a layby opposite Kilchurin Castle on Loch Awe for more pics.
Sorry to jump on but we’re doing the same trip next month so I did want to first say ‘thank you’ for the suggestions. But, we’re staying overnight at Barcaldine castle and dining at the Hawthorne but then continuing on the next day to Glasgow. Appreciate any additional advice that might be worthwhile with such an amendment, for instance visiting Inveraray, Loch Lomond on the way if there is no ‘return’ trip? Re post 8. As per my last post,M8,A82, A83 to Inveraray, A819 and A85 to Oban. Glen Coe is only about 30 mins north of that castle and is steeped in Scottish history. From Glen Coe we have had lunch a few times at the Clachaig Inn, which is situated at the foot of mountains, on a small road on the north side of the A82. From there you go back on A82 to Tyndrum, Crianlarich and south to Loch Lomond and back onto the A82 and M8.
