I'm looking to visit Northern Ireland last week of August with my 9yr old son. At the moment thinking 5 night trip.
We want to visit the titanic museum and giants causeway. Looking for any advice on where else to visit.
Wondering if we should spend a couple of nights in Belfast then find somewhere else up the coast to stay for a few nights. Not sure where would be a good base though.
Hiring a car is an option.
Any help would be appreciated.

118 helpful votes With a 9 yr. old, Portrush is the place for you. Plenty of amusements, beachs, sand dunes etc. to keep him occupied. Belfast is an hour or so drive away. The Causeway just down the road and let him walk the Carrick a rede rope bridge. Waterworld is in the town, if the weather plays up.
A few miles up the road to Coleraine to the Jet Center, should tire him out.

As Tony says ... Portrush would be ideal .. but for the end of August you would really need to book soon, it's a very popular place in summer ... alternatively you could try Ballylinny cottages, on the road down to the Giants Causeway and just outside Bushmills, we stay here often, website as follows

Two beaches at Portrush the East and West Strand. Also NT's Portstewart Strand where you drive your car onto the beach.
