Best part of town for accomodation

Two aussies travelling into York, by car, interested in historic sites and tourist sites. I am just starting my research in this area. We will need car park, and not sure how easy it will be driving in York, so happy to use park n ride. Can we please have suggestions on what area would suit us best for accomodation and then which park and ride.

Thanks in advance

Forget park and ride - loads of reasonable accommodation in the city. The major sights in York are accessible by foot and many hotels have their own parking, sometimes free, so much depends on budget. You choose between modern chains or traditional hotels, which may be mansions or Victorian townhouses joined together.

Recommend this one which has free parking and is five minutes' walk to the city walls and Minster. Do not miss the National Railway Museum at York Station, about 15 minutes scenic walk.

Aa above most of york walilkable. You will obly need a car to day go to tue moors. Or pne of the coubtry houses on the outskirts. If your looking to stay central no need for the park and ride. Look at either b and b York, marmadukes or the Churchill all have parking and are a 10 minute walk from the city centre.

If you can get rid of the car while in York that would be best as parking is difficult and expensive. York city centre is small and compact and can be walked from one side to the other in 30 minutes. It is also mainly pedestrainized and has a lot of road restrictions in place for raods that are pedestrainized. Walking is king in York.
