Hi - I've bought theater tix many times via Ticketmaster UK. I usually pick up the tickets at Will Call rather than rely on them being mailed to my home in the U.S. I had a bad experience with museum event tickets arriving after we left for the UK. But, if you have enough lead time, mailing them should be fine unless otherwise noted that they mail tix closer to the day of the event.
I have also used Ticketmaster UK many time and have never had a problem, they always send them out immediately. I have also bought tickets on www.theatremonkey.com without issue.
We ususally use Albemarle's of London (on line). They have excellent seating diagrams for each theatre and will either mail you your tickets or leave them with your hotel.
I've purchased online from TicketMaster UK & See Tickets and both were very prompt on posting them to me here in the states. I've also purchased from LastMinute.com and for those I just took my voucher to the box office will call to pick them up.
I didn't get them to mail the tickets but picked them up both at the box office instead.
The reason I bought from 2 different sites was that they were offering different prices so you really have to compare them before you buy.
book tickets at the national on their website and pick up on the night at the box office. Simples.
