Day trip to Windsor

Planning possible London trip next April-May. (Our 2nd time). Considering day trip to Windsor. Is National Rail Best site to book? If we go, will stay at Rubens on Buckingham Palace Rd. Seems like Waterloo would be be closer than Paddington? Thank you.

No need to book tickets on line as this is a commuter route. Buy the tickets on the day or a day beforehand.
