Best places to drink in Brighton for a young gay couple

Hi there

We will be staying in Brighton for 5 nights as a birthday get away, and are looking for recommendations of where to drink. We are a young gay couple (mid/late 20s) and enjoy bars and pubs.

Neither of us are from down South, so Brighton is quite a new venture for us, so any recommendations of the best places - as well as things to do - extremely welcome :)

Well Brighton is very diverse and there are many nice bars and pubs for everyone to enjoy inclusively.

If you specifically want to visit ‘gay’ bars they are predominately in Kemp Town which is west of the pier and City. I know of revenge and the Amsterdam opposite the pier, I am sure you can do further research on this.

There is lots to do in Brighton. If you like walking, you could walk along the seafront to Hove in one direction and Rottingdean in the other. Visit the Royal Pavillion and the north laines. As you’re staying for 5 days you could also take the 77 bus up to Devils Dyke so stunning views of the Sussex downs - there is a pub there too. Lots to do from Brighton but I wonder from your question if you are just wanting to check out Brighton Bars for five days!

Lewes is a pleasant market town with great pubs and history just a short bus or train ride from Brighton. Lots of other places along the coast like Arundel. Take a look at a paper map.

Have fun

Hi Calum,

You are spoilt for choice.

Legends bar, club and hotel is a very popular gay venue with excellent cabaret on Sunday afternoon.

Amerdam bar is another popular seafront bar with pleasant patio area at front.

Charles street has just been revamped and is great for food and drink also another Sunday evening cabaret venue.

Queens Arms pub in George street is smaller but gets very busy again with cabaret most nights.

Bulldog pub in St James street is Brighton’s oldest gay bar and worth look as is Marine Tavern.

There are more ...

Suggest you pick up a copy of Gscene magazine when here.

Have fun 😄

St. James Street in Kemp Town, which is the main gay village of Brighton. Plenty of places around there from lively clubs to quieter bars.

It us a very busy, friendly city so you are spoiled for choice. Be At One does nice cocktails (happy hour BOGOF) and Ye Olde King and Queen is worth a visit for the sheer size of the pub (Brighton’s largest) but there are loads especially in the streets around the Pier. The Sussex in Hove is a nice, chain pub, too.

As suggested above Lewes is nice for a wander, the Lanes in Brighton and walking dish the promenade is always fun as it is so busy with people and dogs out enjoying themselves. The Pavillions are nice with a small free museum, too.
