Suitable accommodation for May

Hi, We will be arriving in Torquay at the end of May, (I believe it will be a school holiday week), for a week, after having flown in from Australia (we are then back to Southampton for a couple of cruises - yes lucky us). We will not be hiring a car, so relying on p.t. and walking, which we love (in fine weather hah!) Have been looking at a couple of guesthouses up near Torre railway station, that serve breakfast only. Are there any suitable Hotels/cafes around there for Dinner? Are there any areas of Torquay that are 'no go' after dark? We are looking for somewhere that would be relatively quiet, or rooms that will be quiet, and reasonably priced - any recommendations? Thanks for any help.

Torre is OK, but not the best place to stay in Torquay. Taxis are plentiful and reasonably cheap and there is also a good bus network so you don't have to tie yourselves to being near a railway station.

If your budget allows I would look at the hotels along Belgrave Road, or somewhere such as Babbacombe, and be closer to the sea. Or maybe go self-catering, there are lots of nice holiday lets in Torquay (there are nearly 300 on TripAdvisor rentals alone).

There are lots of places to eat in Torquay, mainly centred on the Seafront and Harbourside area. Torquay doesn't really have no-go areas as such.

Have had several Torquay holidays, usually based near Babbacombe as recommended by Wirewiper. As you are using public transport I would say that Babbacombe is quite short on restaurants, and somewhere nearer the town centre would be more convenient. If pub meals, fish n chips (excellent take away/restaurant) are acceptable, then I'd support Babbacombe, lovely area to stay. Frequent bus service into centre.

The one time we stayed nearer the centre was at Lincombe Hall Hotel if that is within budget = recommended.

One man's "reasonably priced" is another's luxury. We stayed at the Corbyn head hotel recently, it's a bus ride from the station. However you've have to choose between view over the bay and road noise or quieter room with no view at the back. It's a good place to eat though and near enough to this place to walk https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Rev…

Bank holiday Monday is 28th. and that's a very popular time for family breaks.

we regularly visit Torquay I agree with previous posters would not chose Torre as a base

If you are looking for value try the Toorak Hotel part of the TLH resort but away from the activities ect usually excellent value BB&EM well situated for public transport But would choose a Riviera room worth the upgrade

Lincolme Hall is also set in a nice quiet position

May i suggest looking along tge avenue too. Not far from the town centre and convenient for the train too.

Would suggest The Harmony it is a small b&b run by a lovely couple.

I agree with wirewiper. We decided not to stay in Torre as we felt there weren't enough bars and eateries around there, but we enjoyed our stays on Belgrave Road and Bababcombe. We htought the latter wa sbrilliant, as there were places to eat and drink everywhere, from Hanbury's and Drake's fish and chips to the little cafes in nearby St Marychurch.

The bus service to and from the centre of Torquay and Paignton is also very good, making it easy to reach the harbour, the shops, the boat to Brixham and superb old pubs like The Hole in the Wall.
