Transportation to Port Issac

I was told the best way to get to Port Issac is by train from London. Does anyone know where the train stops near Port Issac, and are rental cars available there. Going out on a limb- is there a small plane flight from Ireland (prefer Shannon airport) to an airport near Port Issac? All replys appreciated. Wellsyank!

Cork and Dublin have flights to Newquay in the summer, and Hertz have a depot at the airport

There's no train station all that convenient to Port Isaac - Bodmin Parkway is probably the best - and there's a car hire depot there too http://www.bbchire.co.uk/

Just looked at teh website for that car hire firm and I am well and truly confused. It says it is situated next to Bodmin Parkway. Where? I use that station frequently and there is NOTHING that I am aware of beside it.

Hi

You can fly from Cork or Dublin into Newquay,(rent a car)which is about 30mins by car from Port Isaac.

Train is trickier, as the nearest rail station is at Bodmin Parkway (again about 30mins or so to Port Isaac)which does not have car hire facilities and is awkward by bus to get to Port Isaac.

If you are in Ireland first, i would fly into Newquay.

If coming from London, you can also fly down to Newquay.http://www.newquaycornwallairport.com/

Just seen the other replies, (done as i was typing my first one)

I too have never seen this car hire company at Bodmin Parkway station, which as Annabelle says has no facilities or buildings near it. I'm going there on Saturday and will seek it out! Try this link again for the airport http://www.newquaycornwallairport.com/

Thanks to all you great people who gave info on getting to Port Issac. A joke in our state of Maine is "you can't get there from here" Sounds like Port Issac is truly remote, but air travel to Newquay seems like the best choice. Thanks again, Wellsyank

I was at Bodmin Parkway yesterday and didn't notice a new car hire place there - but then I wasn't looking for it and so might just have missed it. Will be interested to find out what's what.

The postcode given on the web site for the 'main' office is indeed the station but the website also says that the 'head' office is in St Austell. Hmmm.
