Chester in January

Would it be worth to spend a day in Chester in the middle of January? Have 3 free days in Manchester before some classes and wanted to take a day to go to Chester and one to go to Liverpool. Am I being too optimistic about weather conditions?

No one knows what the weather will be like in January, except that it will be a bit chilly and it may or may not rain. It might even snow!

Just go prepared with a waterproof coat and wear layers.

Don't let the weather put you off visiting Chester and Liverpool. 😉

The weather is rarely too bad to venture out and there is lots to see in Chester even in inclement weather. The unique medieval two tiered shopping streets provide shelter on the upper level for both viewing the different styles of architecture ,

Even having a drink or meal is an experience with cafes and bars to choose from medieval cellars through C16 th town houses to Georgian Mansions.

The cathedral is free to enter and has the church and othervmonastic buildings to view under cover. The church of St John the Baptist by the amphitheatre is a Saxon/Norman gem and is also free

The Grosvenor Museum is also free to enter and displays amongst other things unique Roman tombstones.

If the weather is cold but dry a walk along at least part of the walls is well worth it. The walls are accessible 24/7 and there are frequent places to. get on or off them to get a warning drink of coffee or something stronger!
