High resorts fees and taxes

High resorts fees and taxes

It's been awhile since I visited South Lake Tahoe. Are all their hotels and resorts now charging such high fees? In addition to a higher room rate (for a "good" rated hotel) than average, a high tax rate is applied and then on top of that, a resort fee paid directly to the hotel. By the time I would book a $150/night room, I'd walk away with a bill closer to $200. One I looked at was charging an additional $25 extra person fee, even though I was booking a room with 2 queens, easily accommodating the 4 of us. If this is the norm, I think I'll vacation elsewhere, so my buck goes a little further!

Not all motels or hotels charge the resort fee. This seems to be started by the big hotel/casinos. Taxes are charged at every lodging location including Lake Tahoe.

Yes, compare prices and if Lake Tahoe is not for you, go somewhere else.

I haven't been to SLT in a long time but I thought, what with the competition from Indian casinos, that accommodation was rather reasonable there. I'm surprised at $200/night rooms.

WD- South Lake Tahoe still draws with its easy access to nature all seasons. You should visit as it's worthwhile. As with Vegas, many people don't gamble there.

I love to gamble. Just hate Vegas.

When I get the time to travel I'd rather take longer overseas trips. Tahoe is, to me, been there done that.

If you haven't been to Vegas in a while you should give it a try. I eat well in Vegas. I think our meals cost more than our flights.

Very few people go to Lake Tahoe just to gamble. Those days are long gone. Lake Tahoe has so much to offer and people enjoy activities that the lake offers. Lake Tahoe has evolved from 20 years ago.

$200/night rooms? Sure, but you can still find rooms under $100 and even under $50/night during the non weekends. Oh, you can also find $600/night rooms. There are price ranges for everyone.

Yup. I remember cheapo $20 motel rooms when I was in college and went for quick ski trips. It was a little place on Pioneer run by a Korean couple. I think it got razed for the newish Heavenly gondola.

we chose South Lake Tahoe to escape the Arizona summer heat for a week!

being on the lake and taking some kayaks out sounds like a cool way to beat the heat.

very much looking forward to the gondola ride and the other activities on the mountain!
