drive from Naples and take the ferry back from Sicily

I assume it is it possible to drive from Naples and take a car ferry to messina. what is the frequency and costs. then is it possible to take a ferry back from Sicily to Naples? what city is the best place to do this? I know there are overnight ferries from Catania but are there other options with a shorter passage?

thanks in advance for any information you have for my short stay in Sicily

Welcome to Sicily cvezetinski!

It is, however it’s not recommended for several reasons.

Avoid driving in Naples, and also avoid driving the A3 between Salerno and Reggio di Calabria.

The A3 Reggio Calabria-Salerno has been undergoing a 15-year long reconstruction program, so expect delays and check road conditions. Traffic would be lighter at night and early morning, but expect trucks, except for Sundays, but traffic is heavier on weekends around the seaside.

Check this site for road conditions along the A3.

You can check the schedules and rates for the Messina crossing on the Caronte website.

Be sure to notify your rental supplier that you would be transporting the car via ferry.

TTT Lines runs overnight ferry service between Catania and Naples, and Tirrenia and SNAV run the overnight ferry service between Palermo and Naples – Which city would be dependent upon your itinerary in Sicily.

Caronte also runs service between Messina or Termini Imerese and Salerno.

Prego cvezetinski,

It certainly does – You might enjoy this article that references Naples and discourages driving in Palermo as well. Although written in 1999, some things just don't change!

Is It Palermo, or Pamplona?:
