North Tahoe 3rd week of August

Hello,

Travelling the 3rd week of August with my husband and 2 kids (6yo and 8yo). We're staying in the Kings Beach area. We've been to Sand Harbor beach in the past and it's beautiful! This time we're debating on whether we should go back to Sand Harbor or stick closer to where we are and go Kings Beach instead. I was also looking into doing a cruise but wasn't sure who to go through so any recommendations would be appreciated. Last question... is there an easy hike we can do with the kids where we can still see all the beauty of Emerald Bay?

Thank you so much!

Go to both...or just decide when you are there. I like both so its hard for me to choose one beach over the other.

I would go on one of the bigger boats - more room to roam around for the kids - like Miss Dixie.

Are they ok with hiking down hills and then back up?

If case I would do the hike to Vikingsholm in Emerald Bay.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. How early should we plan on arriving if we would like to do the emerald bay hike? I read it gets crowded and parking is challenging.

I have the perfect hike for you. It's called the Fire Lookout. It's behind the Biltmore Casino in nearby Crystal Bay. Much easier than Emerald Bay with young children. Park at the locked gate and walk up the paved path to the top. You will have the best view of the lake, NV on one side and CA on the other. Down below you can see the CalNeva Resort on the point. Their swimming pool had a black stripe painted down the middle with CA & NV painted on each side. It was fun to take a photo with a leg on each side!

We went to Kings Beach when we stayed at a motel. It was fine, but you can't beat Sand Harbor. We go there every July from Incline Village.

We take the MSDixie with family. We like the lunch sail for two hours to Emerald Bay and back. You will get some great photos.

I second this post - the fire lookout is a great short hike for children.

Do he advised, the fires in Yosemite have recently put a damper on the visual beauty of the lookout.

Thank you so much for your recommendation. We will add the fire lookout to our itinerary. I'm worried about the fires though...

If we were planning to go river rafting the same day should we do the hike then river rafting or vice versa?
