Must See's?

Am thinking of spending 1 1/2 to 2 days in PEI in May. Appreciate that is no time at all. Will arrive by ferry and leave by bridge so will see some of the southern coastal scenery. Am thinking a wander around Charlottetown and a drive out to a great beach (not to sun-bathe in May!) Cavendish or Montague perhaps? We will only get a "feel" of PEI but is there anything else we really should see?

One of the great things about PEI from a traveling standpoint is it's relatively compact size. It is less that 1 hour's drive from charlottetown to some great beaches.

One recommendation would be to take a 1/2 day to a day and drive up along the north shore. You can stop in at Ann of Green Gables and also PEI National Park that occupies some prime beach/coastal real estate along that shore. Great place for a walk.

A drive out to Montague is also a good choice.

Just a caution to check with any place you are thinking of visiting to confirm their open hours in May. That is still the "off season" and not all places are operating a full schedule.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Our trip has been shortened and we won't be doing PEI now but am sure the information will be useful for others and you neverknow I might make it to PEI next year!

Thanks again.

Spend some time on the East Coast of PEI and Points East Coastal Drive. If you look at a map of PEI you will see that the East Coast is very jagged while most of the other coastlines tend to be flatter.

the jagged coastline of the east is very scenic and has some of the very best beaches, more lighthouses and fishing harbours. Two of the very best beaches on the island are on Points East Coastal Drive..You are on the drive when you get off the ferry.

Panmure Island is traffic and Basin head is without doubt one of the very best. Also Greenwich National park is great but you don't have too much time.

Turn right when you get off the ferry.
