Nope, no trains to Boston from Toronto. The Toronto-New York train is the only US-bound train from Toronto and it's a day-long journey. The last part of the trip would be OK -- New York-Boston can be done on Amtrak's Acela trains, fast by North American standards and fairly comfortable.

You can fly Toronto-Boston either from Pearson Airport (Air Canada and others) or the downtown island airport (Porter Airlines), and that's by far the easiest way to get between the two cities.

Hi Colin48Kent;

There are no direct trains from Toronto to Boston. You would have to take the "Maple Leaf" from Toronto to Albany New York, where you would then change to a second train to Boston.

The Toronto to Albany leg would be about a 10.5 hour ride, the Albany to Boston leg would be about a 6 hour ride. Check the schedules carefully, as you may need to stay overnight in Albany.

As has been suggested above, a flight with Porter Airlines would be much quicker and easier.

Thanks for the advise. I am going to Quebec City then Ottawa Montreal Toronto. Then New York Boston finally Philadephia then back to UK. I would be travelling by train between these cities. One travel company said I would be better so as not to back track on myself if I went direct to Boston New York Philadephia.

Is Quebec City your first stop? How are you getting there?

Hi Colin48Kent;

If I may suggest;

Use the train for Quebec City - Montreal - Ottawa - Toronto.

The fly from Toronto to Boston, as I posted above.

From Boston, use the Amtrak train to New York City and again to Philadelphia.

If you can change your plans, I would suggest arriving in Toronto, the use the train from Toronto to Ottawa, Quebec City and then Montreal. You could then board a train to Boston (via Albany NY) and then on to NYC and Philly.

THAT would cut out the most back-tracking.

Best Regards

Hi Colin;

Albany is about an 8.25 hour ride from Montreal, and then the ride to Boston would be about an additional 6 hours. Again, I would suggest that your check the schedules carefully, as you may need to stay overnight in Albany.

Once again, from Canada to Boston, rather than using all that time just to get from place to place, flying would be a better option for this leg of your trip.

approx. 550 miles / 885 km from Toronto
