where to stay, Downtown Oakville or Bronte Village

Hi

We ( myself, wife and 1 yr old child) are coming to Canada on holiday in july and are staying around the niagara area before driving back up to Toronto to drop off our car and enjoy a week in the city.

We have one night to spare and thought we would stay in oakville.

Ive noticed there are 2 areas, Downtown oakville and the Bronte harbour/village.

Where is best to stay?

we were looking at the holiday inns but not sure what one.

We like the idea of wandering around the shops etc in downtown but also like the look of the Bronte harbour area.

Can you visit both in the one day? Are they close and within walking distance or would i have to drive there

Many thanks

That's great , thanks

I've checked availability for the date we want and the waterfront hotel looks like its sold out already. It is a Saturday night in july i suppose.

Just our luck!

Ill check other hotels within that area .

Is there a specific name of the area that's got the shops/resturants etc ?

Sorry to hear that!......that whole area is called Downtown Burlington, but you could also refer to it as the Brant St and Lakeshore Rd intersection, although the shops and restaurants,Performing Arts Centre etc. stretch for many blocks north, east and west of that intersection......there is a highly rated B&B less than a one minute walk to Brant St,and about 7-10 minutes from the Brant St and Lakeshore Rd intersection, called the Heart of Burlington B&B...lots of great reviews here on TA about it....there are other B&B's but not in walking distance that I know of, however they could exist.....and yes there are other hotels to stay in, but again not in walking distance to downtown

Downtown Oakville has much. More going on than Bronte. Bronte is still really only up and coming. Downtown is very quaint with tons of great restaurants and shops.
