Best fallview hotel for night photography?

Hi everybody. I have searched this forum but am still not sure which hotel would be the best for photography of the falls, specially long exposure night photography of the falls as well as the fireworks. I have seen the interactive map and numerous candid photographs posted by fellow TA members. I know that Sheraton on the Falls rooms have a balcony while the others like Marriott Fallsview and Embassy Suites have simple windows. But can these windows be opened, even enough for a camera lens to protrude though so that I can avoid the window reflections? Do any of the hotels have an open air observation deck which is accessible to all guests and where I can set up a tripod? Right now Sheraton seems to fit the bill but the views are a bit distant. I prefer the views of Marriott and the Embassy Suites but am not sure about the windows. On a similar note, is it permissible to set up a tripod in Queen Victoria Park or Skylon Tower? Thanks.

I don't believe that any of the hotels have opening windows. Sheraton on the Falls is a real anomaly with its full and French balconies, so very likely that you would be shooting through a window anywhere else.

You could certainly set up a tripod in the Park or on the Skylon. The Skylon has the outdoor observation deck, but it is enclosed by fencing, although that shouldn't be a problem for still photography.

Thanks fallsdude. If I can manage to minimize the reflections, which hotel would be a better choice for me? tdsuperstar, I'll be there in May next year, Memorial Day weekend.

Fallview Casino Hotel, Oakes Hotel, Embassy Suites, Tower Hotel and Marriott Fallsview would be the best. With any hotel, make sure that you are getting a room that offers full views of both falls.

Memorial Day is a U.S. holiday, nothing in Canada. Our Victoria Day sometimes coincides with Memorial Day, but not in 2015.

I don't recommend Fallsview Casino...any night photography I have tried from that hotel has not been up to par.

Thanks fallsdude and MapleG. Can you also tell me which of these hotels have an easier access to Clifton Hill attractions as well as the Hornblower ride?

The Sheraton is at the bottom of Clifton Hill and close to the boat cruise.

All the others are in the Fallsview area, on the escarpment overlooking the Falls, about 1.5km from Clifton Hill. These are all close to the Incline Railway down into Queen Victoria Park at Table Rock Centre. You can also easily get around using the WEGO buses.

Even through the window our view from the Marriott Fallsview was fantastic, in the daytime. Our photos came out great and no one believed that they was taken from a window. At nightfall, it was a different story. It seemed that a wave of fog rolled in over the falls and you could barely even see the illumination It looked like one big cloud. This happened every night (4 nights) that we were there in the beginning of October. Maybe fog over the falls is seasonal ? Anyway, didn't get any good night shots.
