halifax for one night - on route to south shore

we will be traveling through halifax in a week, coming from cape breton, working our way to south shore. not too interested in spending days in halfax, just an evening and part of next day. any recommendations for a place which allows us to be centrally downtown, park car and walk around city. do not need fancy place, but a clean and safe place. thanks.

Staying in downtown Halifax is expensive, at least in my opinion, with parking an additional expense.

You might want to try one of the B&B's in Dartmouth and take the ferry over to Halifax.

If you don't want to stay in the city, you might try the Inn on the Lake in Fall River but this option is a 20 minute drive into the city. If you take this option, I would still take the ferry from Dartmouth to Halifax. Parking is horrible in Halifax. The Inn on the Lake also has a fabulous restaurant.

Halifax is relatively expensive versus the outlying areas, but you can find decent deals still....worth it for the city experience though....try Salty's for great seafood....

All the above posts have your options covered, If you can find good rate for Westin it is in great location. The Seaport Market is just behind with a wonderful array of artisan cheeses, breads, wines and crafts and obviously at this time of year a bounty of fresh fruit and veggies.

Pier 21 the immigration museum is right besdie and the NS College of Art and Design, less than a block away is the Maritime Museum for all things nautical including artifacts from the Titanic.

The Waterfront boardwalk starts just behind the hotel and is well worth the walk to view the harbour.
