places to stay

where is a good place to spend one night between Tiverton where we will be doing a whale watching trip in the afternoon and then driving toward Middleton and down to Luenburg the next day. Was wondering about Digby or Annapolis Royal or Middleton. So we just need one night and nothing fancy since it's just one night on our way unless there is something fantastic to see before we get to Luenburg. Thanks. J Haseltine

1. Re: places to stay

I would probably recommend staying in the Annapolis Royal area. There are only two motels in the Middleton area, the Mid-Valley motel and the Fundy Spray, neither of which have a restaurant for breakfast in the morning. Actually, in the Middleton area, the only thing open in the morning for breakfast is Tim Horton's!

You would have a greater choice in the Annapolis Royal area, which has plenty of B&Bs and the Annapolis Royal Inn www.portroyalinn.com/annapolis/about.html . You also enjoy an evening walk around the town or visit the Historic Gardens

Digby also has a selection of motels and a few B&Bs. The downtown area has undergone a nice restoration and is a pleasant place to sit and watch the harbour and the fishing trawlers

If you haven't already, check www.novascotia.com

You will find information on all the accommodations in whatever area you decide to stay. As already has been suggested, either Annapolis Royal or Digby would be a good choice.

Route 10 takes you over south mountain through wooded areas and a few farms. Couple of small villages.

And you'll get to experience another (un)tourist attraction taking Hwy 10 - one of teh highways in Nova Scotia in most disrepair. Catch teh numerous signs set up on properties saying "Fix Our Road"

Last Aug. there were road crews working on repaving parts of it, but think there is still way to much to go.

On CBC radio this morning, tehy were discussing the worst roads in the maritimes and NS hwy 10 got a good mention, complete with the "Fix Our roads" signs.

I've mostly used Hwy 12, from kentville, to be in fairly good shape.
