Immigration papers for minors

We're hoping to visit Victoria from Seattle. My daughters' (8, 9 yo)

passports expired a few months ago. Can they return to the USA with US birth certificates ?

We hope to go in 2 weeks; tickets bought to Seattle already.

I checked the government sites but interpretation was cloudy.

Thanks!

So you expect someone here to give you an answer that will hold good if questioned by the US Border Protection personnel on re-entry to the US? Surely this is a dangerous tactic, and the question would be best answered by the US CBT.

Your daughters will require passports.

I agree with Frommy, you need to get this information from proper authorities.

If you are crossing into Canada by land and back, children under the age of 15 do not require passports - a birth certificate is acceptable.

It isn't getting into Canada, it is getting back into USA

Frommy- your remarks does not contribute assistance to my post;

as noted in my question, I have visited the the appropriate website & needed help interpreting it. My understanding is minors traveling by land returning to the States do not need passport but other documentation as noted on the website. I was looking for personal experience in crossing with minors from Canadians & Americans. (Not an Australian)

bamboo,

I would give you the same answer if you asked about visiting Australia. Different people have different circumstances; different people have different experiences depending on the border agent they meet and how they react; laws, rules and guidelines change and this may not be known by someone who travelled 12 months ago and provides advice.

Are you prepared to stack up the advice of your anonymous new friends on TA to argue a position with the US CBT? And would not the experiences of a Canadian be absolutely irrelevant as different conditions are applied?
