VI for 2 weeks with kids

Hi all,

About to take off tonight and still scrambling to plan our trip to VI. Thankfully all our accommodation is booked and read about many options, just have to plan the specifics of each day. We are taking our two girls (6&9) to camp for August 5-11th so we will be in Ucleutet and Courtenay alone, but the rest of the time we travel as a family.

We arrive early on the 2nd, have reservations for the ferry to Victoria, and will leisurely head to Sooke that day. Would love a glance at our itinerary if you can. We love hiking and our girls want to see nature of any kind.

Also, for Butchart Garden fireworks on August 4th, what time would we need to get there to be able to park? Website says early but how early? Not sure if it is worth it given we are staying in Sooke and girls off to camp the next day, but sounds incredible.

Thanks so much in advance!

One more question...we aren't camping this trip unfortunately but my girls still would love a campfire if possible. I remember reading there are few beaches on the East Coast with fire pits where we could make hot dogs and smores. Any ideas? Thanks!

Oooh staying in Sooke and want to see the Gardens fireworks. How do you feel about driving along a windy road in the dark? You won't get out of the Gardens until 30-45 minutes after the show ends so it will be very late when you finally get to Sooke. Having given that warning, the fireworks are unbelievable and well worth seeing. Go about 5:00 in the afternoon, set your blanket or chairs down in the viewing area to mark your spot and then go wander around the Gardens. You can either pack a picnic or pick up one at the cafe in the Gardens.

The rest of your trip looks great, enjoy!

There's a campfire ban, unfortunately for most of Vancouver Island. You won't be able to make a campfire on this trip.

The Butchart Gardens will be jam packed for the fireworks. Its a long, dark drive home for you...it will be quite late... and the fact you have young kids who have to get up early in the morning...I don't know if it's worth it.

"Botanical Beach (too far of a drive?)"

Quite far Yes and a twisty old road is Highway 14.

You've done a spectacular job of misspelling Ucluelet BTW never seen the like-if you just say 'Ukee' no one will mind.

The campfire ban doesn't apply in the "fog zone" which includes Ucluelet, but the local fire department may have imposed it anyway. So you might be in luck but check locally before you pull out the s'mores.
