Smoke and/or wildfires

Anyone in Lake Louise area-- or Jasper or Banff --- What is the current situation with smoke from wildfires or any current wildfires in any of these areas? Thanks in advance.

You can see Lake Louise for yourself at the webcam - looks clear with no smoke atm: http://cams.skilouise.com/cam9.jpg

Here in Jasper, today there is a bit of haze, but nowhere near the smoke we've had for the past few days.

There are no wildfires anywhere near Jasper, Lake Louise or Banff - the smoke is blowing in from fires several hundred kiometres away in BC.

Hi from Banff!

The Lake Louise cam is a great way to keep an eye on that area, and for here in Banff the wind has shifted and blew away what little haze we had yesterday. If you want to keep an eye on Banff, the Town of Banff has some pretty handy cams around town: http://banff.ca/index.aspx?NID=959

Thanks krp for the update on Jasper, we'll be sure to pass it on to visitors heading that way!

Thank you so much for your prompt and informative reply. We are scheduled to travel from Vancouver to Kamloops to Jasper by train then onward beginning a week from tomorrow. We are trying to decide if there is any portion of the trip we can salvage without putting our elderly selves in harm's way. Interested in keeping an eye on the situation. Thanks again

If you are doing the Rocky Mountaineer I would check directly with them. Their train that goes through to Whistler was impacted a few days ago and part of the journey was on a bus but their trains to Jasper and Banff are both currently running fine.

Via Rail appears to be running trains normally but they have had some delays. Both use the tracks that run through Ashcroft but are not near the current fires. The situation is changeable. I certainly wouldn't change your trip as highly unlikely you'll be in harms way
