Last minute road trip

Hi Guys

We are skiing at Kimberley but as conditions are a bit poor we've decided to spend a few days on a road trip to Lake Louise, etc. Leaving tomorrow! Got a truck with snow tires so that's covered. Plus our warm ski clothes/boots. We've booked tomorrow (wednesday) night at Lake Louise and can stay an extra night there or elsewhere if we want to. So we thought we might drive to Lake Louise via the Kootenay National Park. There are a few hikes at Lake Louise that I thought looked good (suitable in this weather/ not too icy?) to Fairview lookout and Bow Glacier Falls and I thought we would either do the snowshoe tour or just catch the gondola up and look around ourselves (comment on both options welcome). Then other things we have been recommended in the area are Lake Golden and a look around Field. On the way home we will stop at Fairmont hot springs.

So you can see the types of things we like, is there anything else in the area I've missed? We might spend the second night in Banff as we've been told to get ribs at Tony Roma's for dinner. Are there any good lookout points or other places we should stop along the way? Thanks in advance for all help!

Thankyou all for your help and suggestions, here is what we ended up doing:

The drive through the Kootenay National Park was lovely and we arrived a bit later than expected at Lake Louise. By the time we checked in we only had time to look at the ice sculptures and the view. It was very very cold. The next day we did the Lake Louise Snow shoe tour from the top of the gondola. It was really fun and being sunny weather the view was just incredible. In the afternoon we hired crampons and hiked to Lake Agnes Tea Rooms (closed). The trail was well packed and as there hadn't been any new snow for over a week there were no issues. The following day we just walked out over the lake to the frozen waterfall - beautiful - then on the way back to Kimberley we stopped at Fairmont Hot Springs for a hot soak while the snow was falling. Didn't have anywhere near enough time so that means we have to return soon! Short days and very cold weather slows things down!

As a note, it is NOT recommended to hike/snowshoe all the way to the Lake Agnes teahouse in the winter. Anything about Mirror Lake has significant avalanche risk - snowshoers were killed there several years ago.

And despite the lake of new snow lately, avy conditions have been very touchy. Lots of close calls lately - the wind was ripping snow off of things last weekend, and the snowpack is quite unstable. Remember it's not necessarily what's on the ground - it's what's above you. There's A LOT above you at Lake Agnes.
