Driving time Vancouver to Horseshoe bay ferry terminal

I will be picking up a rental car in Hornby street and driving to Horseshoe bay on Sunday 9 September. Google estimates the driving time as 21 minutes but in an earlier post it was stated it takes 60-90 minutes at around 8am in the morning. Just wondering if someone could confirm roughly how much time to allow bearing in mind it is a Sunday morning. It seems likely that it would be too much of a push to catch the 8.45 ferry and that it would be more sensible to go for the 11am departure.

The drive should take 30-40 minutes on a Sunday morning in September. You need to either make a reservation for the ferry or allow 45 min to 1 hour to wait for the 8h45 am ferry without a reservation.

Depends on when Avis opens on a Sunday morning too. But if you left at 7h15 am (that means wheels rolling out of the agency lot), you would likely arrive at HB at about 7h45, an hour ahead of the 8h45 sailing. An hour is good to claim your reservation at the ticket booth. 30 min ahead is the absolute cutoff for claiming reservations. If you arrive at 29 min to the sailing, your reservation will be forfeited and you will go into general boarding.

You may not be in any particular rush to get somewhere, in which case you could go without a reservation. I would leave at the same time in that case and to go into General Boarding straightaway - and have the advantage of being closer to the front of the lines.

It will not be a popular sailing at that early time of the morning, unless BC Ferries runs their promo of charging $49 for car and driver for the first ship out of HB and $59 for the 8h45 am ferry. On your Sunday, as it happens. Then it will get the cars. And it looks like that promotion is running until Sept. 30, 2018

The 11 am departure will be more popular than early morning. So I would still allow 1.5 hours to get there with a reservation. 9h20 leave Avis, 9h50/10h arrive at HB one hour ahead of sailing with a ressie.

Cars start to board the ferry at 15 min before sailing or so. If the ferry is on time.
