Interested in buying Prescription Drugs

I have heard that you can buy prescription drugs at any of the drugstores. Just don't know how to go about it. Any restrictions? Would love to save some money if possible while I'm down there!

There are a lot of them that you can buy over the counter, but not things that are "restricted"-like oxycontin (sp?). While you may be able to find a farmacia that will sell it, you may not get that type of drug back into the states without a 'script. Cortizone there can be purchased at a 2.5%, which is nice, and things like RetinA are readily available. Also some antibiotics. While they aren't cheap, things tend to be less than here. Oh-Tylenol w/codine can be found..

things you might want to have on hand. I don't know about what others do, but I list them on my customs forms, but then, I don't really purchase much along that line. I like the farmacia at Aramburo Plaza. It's not the cheapest, but they have lots of things, and also the one at the Flintstone plaza, but they are everyplace.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking for Cialis, blood pressure medicine and Darvocet for chronic pain. I guess I'll just get up my courage and ask. If they say No, oh well! Thanks for the info, Kat!

It is possible to have trouble re-entering the US with prescription products if you do not have a prescription from your doctor. Also they do not like you to bring back more than a 90 day supply. How much of a problem would completely depend on the customs officer you encounter.

Drugs that are control drugs here like Darvocet (propoxyphene) are ones most likely to be seized at US customs. Personally, I would not try to bring a control out of Mexico. It would be deep ???? for anyone if Mexican authorities get involved.

Hope this helps. It is one of those, think before you act things by weighing the risks.

namredus52.....You flirt with danger by stocking up on Darvocet which is extremely addictive. Narcotics should only be prescribed by physician who can keep track of how much you have been taking. Addiction to narcotic painkillers is very common and is an addiction that is rising extremely rapidly. Look up the July 8, 2007 Newsweek issue where they show figures on the huge increase. No one intends to get addicted to narcotics...it just happens....often in someone recovering from an accident. It must be closely monitored. It is a terrible addiction that I have had to deal with in more than one close relative....horrible.

Thanks so much guys! I think I will pass on the controlled substance. Landing in a Mexican prison is really NOT MY CUP OF TEA! I did read the article you posted. Very informative! I will definitely take your advice!

namred, you are a smart man. You know what the addiction MD told my relative? If you use narcotics for a period of time the addiction process hijacks the brain so that when you stop taking it, the brain will produce the same pain (even analgesics like tylenol and advil can do this and is called Rebound Pain) , and thus a cycle is put in to action. Addiction tricks the brain and makes it hard to recognize the symptoms. It is like an alien takes up residence to keep it going, and this is true for alcohol as well as drugs. That is why when you look at medical descriptions of alcoholism and drug addiction they list "denial" as one of the symptoms and that the addiction process dramatically effects the brains thinking processes.

Humans are geared towards addiction because it uses the same brain pathways of the Reward Systems (such as dopamine) which are so deeply embedded as part of survival. Food and Reproduction are the two biggies. When the green light goes on it dimishes the red light part of the brain (which is the higher order thinking of the brain, where judgement and experience are weighed). Drugs and alcohol use the exact same pathways and therfore must be used with caution.

The young brain (22 and under) is particularly susceptible because the frontal lobe (judgement, wisdom) is much less developed than the impulsive, gratification, emotion-producing areas of the brain....I mean, that frontal lobe is actually much larger in adults than youth. Hundreds of studies, brain imaging, dissection have proven this conclusively. The prefrontal cortex is considered the Executive functioning area of the brain. That is all you have to know about teenagers (grin). Big emotion and impulse, small prefrontal cortex.

My apologies for the lecture.....the aspect of easily gotten drugs in Cabo just sparked it... Addiction is such an American epidemic...

Joe Califano (ex secretary of Health Education and Welfare) just wrote a book about the epidemic and said that we are only 4% of the worlds population yet consume two-thirds of the illegal drugs.

Illegal drug use is now being partially and rapidly trending upwards with prescription drug abuse (think amphetamines, oxycontin, valium..)

I'll shut up now.

Hey-it looks like I spelled oxycontin correctly! Thank for backing up my brief "don't do it" note.

You are right, 52, it wouldn't be worth it at all.
