I was involved in the promotion of this place, when it was called Maraña Cove.

I stayed overnight a couple of times when it was still very rustic. No connection to electric power, just low level lighting from solar cell charged batteries.

Absolutely beautiful beaches, but not too easy to land a panga on.

I rode horseback to El Chimo back then, but I don't think they have horses anymore.

If you want a bit of peace and isolation this is the place.

Thanks for the info JRinPV. I think I have found their new name/website: http://www.majahuitas-resort.com. So maybe it has changed hands recently. I have never been to PV. The best deal we can find for March is the Intercontinental. I would prefer to stay somewhere that is convenient, but maybe a little off the beaten path. Our goal is to do some whale watching and enjoy the best beaches PV has to offer. Any tips?

For Los Conchos, visit the following as it seems to have changed names:

Majahuitas has nothing to do with Los Chonchos.

gsboyett, bring insect repellent, something for music if you want - iPod ? and don't forget a flashlight. Camera and binoculars would also be a good idea.

The place is absolutely magnificant! It is in the jungle, accessible only by boat. Most palapas have 180degree views of the unrestricted ocean, miles from PV. Whales and mantas are common site. It is as close to heaven on earth as you will come if you are looking for a relaxing time. 24 palapas are privately owned, but may be rented in the future. Unless you are friends with an owner, you likely will not be staying.

By the way, http://www.majahuitas-resort.com is not chonchos.

I just returned from 5 days in Los Chonchos. This place rocks. First class bungalows. All have views of the ocean. Solar lights. I will go back. We had to wait for about 5 minutes to unload the boat because of the big waves, but the boat driver handles the boat like he knows what he is doing. They say, only January and February is like this. If you go in January, nights are cool, bring a jacket.

We saw whales very close, what a spectacle.

This place is about leaving all the stress behind.

Just the whole setting is like you see only in a high life movie.

Glad to hear that, they had a lot of problems getting started. Did you get to El Chimo at all, I wonder what it's like these days ?
